clear searchResponsible travel is about the choices and actions you make. We encourage travellers to do their research, be prepared, tread right while travelling and share their experiences with others. This includes supporting local businesses, choosing shared transport, avoiding single-use plastics and respecting the wildlife you encounter. By choosing a tour company that puts sustainability at the forefront, you are also choosing responsible travel. Our sustainability strategy How We Tread Right is aligned to 11 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. From MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences available on most tours, to our commitment to Net Zero by 2050, we put our planet, its people and wildlife first. Take a look at our checklist, developed by our TreadRight Foundation, to become a more responsible traveller.
Sustainable travel is based on the three fundamental pillars of sustainable development: social, economic and environmental. We address all three with our MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences and, to ensure they meet these pillars, they’re aligned with 11 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Everywhere we go we need to be aware of our social, economic and environmental impacts. Sustainability in travel means being aware of the needs of the people we meet, the places we go and the wildlife we encounter. By adopting good practices to reduce negative effects, we can leave a positive impact, both for now and for future generations.
Be open minded, have a genuine curiosity about your destination. Learn basic greetings and phrases and show respect for those you meet. Dine locally, support local businesses, and choose experiences that benefit the community that you are visiting. Choosing a tour company that matches these values is important. For us luxury travel and respectful travel go hand in hand and our tours support local businesses all along the way. We believe there’s nothing more exquisite and exclusive than genuine people, produce and products.
By opening you up to new experiences and ideas, mindful travel breaks down barriers and widens perspectives. As you focus on the present, you’re able to savour each moment and bring more awareness to your travel experience. A key aspect of mindful travel is making deep connections you make as you go, with opportunities to meet and support local people, communities and wildlife, such as through our MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences.
Climate action aims to combat climate change and its impacts by taking urgent action. Climate change is now affecting every country on every continent, so everyone needs to do their part.
Our Climate Action Plan commits us to reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050. Our carbon reduction targets are endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). A newly created internal carbon fund with revenue from TTC brands will also be used solely for net-zero initiatives.
To keep global warming to no more than 1.5°C, as called for in the Paris Agreement, emissions need to be reduced by 45% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.
To reflect this, In December 2022 we amended our sustainability strategy to target net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, replacing our original goal of carbon neutrality.
